Harrogate solicitor

What attracted you to Hempsons and your current role?

The ability to provide advice to clients on an area of law that I find interesting, within a firm that has such a good reputation within the sector.

What is/are the best part(s) of your job?

Assisting clients to avoid legal challenge, as well as also helping clients out of difficult spots. Every day is different given the nature of the work I carry out and you never know what the next query will be when the phone rings. Acting for both sides of the procurement fence enables me to understand the issues faced by both bidders and contracting authorities, and enables me to give pragmatic advice on the issues clients face.

What is/are your greatest challenge(s) at work?

Balancing and navigating the requirements of the law, to achieve national and local policy objectives.

What types of clients/what nature of work occupies you on a daily basis?

I work for a variety of NHS clients (including foundation trusts and NHS trusts), as well as working for charities and third sector organisations, advising on the application of procurement law. This involves advice on running safe procurement processes, defending procurement challenges made against the NHS, as well as bringing procurement law challenges for charities.

What do you find rewarding about working at Hempsons?

The appreciation received from clients when you have provided them their advice. In addition, no two days are identical given the varied work we undertake. The work is often very high profile and relates to the changing areas of procurement law and NHS policy. The team I work in is also very friendly and supportive in meetings clients’ needs.
