For all Boards of Trustees who are applying the Charity Governance Code, or are thinking of doing so, you need to read the new Code just published. The emphasis is on refreshing the Code and this is not a dramatic rewrite.

The changes are to Principle 3 – Integrity – and Principle 6 – Diversity – which has been renamed Equality, diversity and inclusion.

For the Equality, diversity and inclusion principle, the Code recommends that Boards should:

• identify how equality, diversity and inclusion are important for the charity and the delivery of its aims;
• sets realistic plans and targets;
• regularly monitor and actively implement its plans and targets; and
• regularly publish information on its progress towards achieving the plans and targets.
