Martyn has been a charity lawyer since he qualified over ten years ago, and has extensive experience advising charities and social enterprises of all types.
Martyn is comfortable advising on the complex range of legal issues that arise for charities.
His corporate work includes establishing new charities and trading subsidiaries, overseeing mergers and restructures, and amending charity governing documents. Martyn also advises on governance matters such as board remuneration, disagreements within charities and the appointment and removal of board members.
In addition, Martyn has broad experience advising on technical matters such as permanent endowment, total return investment, charitable gifts, fundraising, collaborations with commercial partners and complex trading issues. Martyn has secured a range of consents, orders and schemes from the Charity Commission for charity clients.
Martyn frequently deals with other regulators in the sector such as Companies House, the Financial Conduct Authority, the Privy Council, the Office for Students and the Department for Education.
Martyn is recognised as a “Leading Associate” in the Legal 500 directory, which says he “displays excellent technical and broader industry knowledge”.

I enjoy supervising junior lawyers and helping where I can with their technical and general development. Away from work I am a passionate film fan and listen to a wide range of music. I enjoy running and have completed a number of half marathons (plus one very slow full marathon).
