Liberty Protection Safeguards – start date significantly delayed

The Government made a statement on 16 July 2020 confirming, as widely expected, the implementation date for the Liberty Protection Safeguards has been put back. What is more of a surprise is the length of the delay. Full implementation is now not expected until April 2022. The statement can be found here.

Once the draft Code of Practice is available Hempsons will resume a full programme of comment and seminars on the implementation and operation of LPS. The statement anticipates 6 months between publication of the full code of Practice and implementations to allow for training and preparation.
