NHS England publishes new Primary Medical Care Policy and Guidance Manual
NHS England released its updated Primary Medical Care Policy and Guidance Manual (PGM) this week. The PGM is used by the Integrated Care Boards to manage all aspects of general practice and helps to interpret and implement the various legislative regulations and directions which govern the sector.
There are some significant changes which reflect recent legislation and changes caused by case law. These include the following:
- Provider Selection Regime (PSR) – the PGM now incorporates the role this change has on primary care
- Partnership disputes and dissolution – the PGM has introduced significant changes to how commissioners will manage these situations
- Premises Cost Directions – the PGM now includes references to the changes made in the Premises Cost Directions
This is essential reading for all commissioners and highly useful for contract holders to be aware of.
