More about Elspeth
Being outdoors is where I switch off from work and feel the happiest. At the weekend you’ll find me pottering in my Urmston ‘yarden’ oasis cooing over caterpillars, making bug hotels and throwing seed bombs everywhere, taking my dog ‘Trigger’ on hikes or putting my running shoes on and running some trails.
I run with two running groups: Kerb Runners, Urmston’s newest running community, or out on the Peak District trails with MCR Outdoors. I have immersed myself within these groups; run leading, pacing and chief cheerleader are my main responsibilities but I also volunteer or run Parkrun on a Saturday; anything for the promise of coffee and cake!
When not busy outside, I dabble in different creative activities: knitting, crochet and macrame are my strong points, although I will give anything a solid try. My go-to projects are Crochet Octopus for prem babies, blankets and I have a knitted jumper which seems to never end.
I love to travel and my most recent adventure was XC Skiing in Norway. My next plan is to hike part of the Camino Way.
Finally, I’m passionate about career mentoring as I wouldn’t be where I am now without the mentoring I have received along the way. I want to give back and support my team so that they can thrive and succeed in the world of law; and have fun doing it.

Quotes
“Elspeth (or Miss Rose if you prefer) has represented the Trust on a number of difficult inquests and her expertise in Coronial Law and inquest matters has been invaluable. The inquests have been complex and Elspeth is adept at identifying issues of concern that the Trust has needed to address prior to the inquest hearing. Her knowledge and approach is first class with her Court craft being both skilful and excellent, it has assisted HM Coroner on numerous occasions.” (Val Travis, Legal Services Manager, Bolton NHS Foundation Trust)
“It has been a privilege to have your support throughout the process of this challenging case.
It was my first time to attend a coroner court, I found your advice very helpful. You have been approachable and gave all the time needed for discussions and your kind support on the day took off a lot of the anxiety!
I thought the supplementary statement was a very good idea as it helped me to clarify my point of view to the coroner beforehand rather than on the spot which could be more tricky.
At the time when I finished giving my evidence, I felt slightly frustrated that I was not given the opportunity to comment on cause of death as suggested by the non-clinician witnesses , but when I read the coroner conclusion, I felt that it probably was not going to make much difference!!” (Anonymous, Inquest)
“Thank you for your leadership and organizational skills, you are able to keep everyone up to date with current situations, evidence, and any changes during cases, which in demanding and challenging healthcare environments is essential to support clinical staff to up to date with what’s required, without taking them away from clinical practice for prolonged period” (Dave Simpson, Head of Nursing, East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust)
“Elspeth and Abidah at Hempsons have provided invaluable support to the Trust in navigating complex and sensitive inquests. Their professionalism, expertise and practical guidance have ensured the Trust is well prepared and confident throughout the process, achieving effective outcomes.” (Vicky Sharples, Chief Nurse and Executive Director of Quality, The Christie NHS FT)
